Part of one day we went out on the water and Tom and the kids went kneeboarding.. the water was not warm!  then we spent time playing on the playset/zipline.. Emily loves the zipline.. she is fearless..

and Grams waiting at the end to catch her..

catching..

and releasing..

tom has been wanting cooper to be old enough for remote control toys since the minute he was born..  cooper’s interest this morning proved to be too tempting to tom..  he and coop headed out and brought home two remote control airplanes…  batteries charged, we all donned thermals and I brought the good camera to capture the fun..

we started directly behind our house, but it was a bit windy in the field.. so we took a walk in the woods – much easier to control the planes.. well, i mean, they didn’t dive straight in to the ground..

kids were getting pretty good at it..  taking turns.. good exercise running after the planes..

and then..

tragedy at the hands of a Four Year old..

excuse my loudness.. do you hear how tom is fairly calm despite the fact that his new toy is most likely lost forever..

soon we were trekking in the woods between the “wooded” area behind our home and K-96.. a nice four lane divided highway.. it looked a little something like this..

very happy we had brightly colored items on the kids.. cooper was crying… “i’m sooo mad at emily”.. emily was crying.. “i’m sooooooooooooo sorry!!!!  it was an accident!!!”

look how big emily looks here.. makes me so sad.

but i love the picture

tom remained in good spirits – I knew his spirit was bruised.. he hadn’t even had the chance to play with the planes..

no luck.. we headed home to hop in the car and go check the highway..

after about 5 minutes of searching the roadside and median…

(pics taken through the car window.. created strange color cast – I do not have energy to fix this. . please forgive)

Tom and the boy are back outside with fully charged planes.. the white one was in the pond about 30 minutes ago.. briefly.. the black one (that has a camera and a video camera on it) has been in four trees in the last 30 minutes, but still going strong!!!

what a great day.. tom is going to be exhausted!!!

seriously.. over Thanksgiving we took a trip with the express purpose to see my Grandparents in Florida.. WOW.. we had a wonderful time..  here are a few super quick things from our trip..

dropping our pup, Sparkles, off at her Puppy Hotel (Indian Hills on Maize)..

oh my gosh.. it was the saddest time ever.. well, emily was like, OKAY.. let’s GO!!!

I can not tell you how great this place was – I called and checked on her, they sent me emails.. like this..

two hours in to our drive, we had stopped at SIX restrooms.. SIX.. and we were taking 400 across Kansas, through MO – and there are not a lot of larger towns to stop at super nice bathrooms… example..

yeah.. we went through a few wipes after that stop.. but ya know, that was one of the cleanest.  first night we made it a bit outside of Nashville, TN and stayed with some friends..

back in the car.. took a short drive after our visit with our friends.. we stayed next in Macon, GA.. here are the kids snoozing waiting for Tom to check in to the hotel..

on down to South Georgia – we found some boiled peanuts.. i LOVE them, the children.. not fans.. these were gas station variety.. NOT the proper road side..

we were able to stop and see Tom’s newest niece – Riley – I think she was like 5 days old..

stayed with tom’s parents for a couple days – went wakeboarding, chopped down a tree..

stopped in at my Brother’s house in Savannah on Thanksgiving and had a great visit with them

We got to my grandparents house.. had a wonderful few days visit.. Kids went to Legoland.. then we started our trip back..

stopped in Augusta, GA and stayed with more awesome friends.. got to see Aunt Connie…. go to Rhineharts..

here are our kiddos together.. love them.. good times.

also got to see an old friend I’ve not seen in 15 years – is that right?  Buddy – and meet his family and wonderful wife I’ve become good friends with thanks to facebook..

as we were leaving Augusta, headed East on I-20 – we went to Hopeland’s Gardens – where tom and I had our wedding ceremony almost 10 years ago.. tried to get some sweet images, but when your kids have been on the road 10+ day, there is not much sweet left..

then we headed to Charleston for a few days..  again called friends we have not seen in about 7 years and met them for an impromptu dinner.. went to Middleton Plantation.. it was wonderful.. goregous.. amazing.. and they were so kid friendly

and another from Middleton

gosh.. i tell you – Spanish Moss just makes me calm..

we stopped and had dinner in Columbia, SC with tom’s aunt and uncle.. LOVE them.. then on to Atlanta for the night.. wonderful hotel.. Chick-fil-a for breakfast AGAIN.

stop for the night again outside of Nashville.. and then HOME!!!!

TWO weeks to the day!!!

Sparkles was soooo happy to see the kids!

favorite quotes/conversations

1.  abby, pointing to a vending thing in a restroom, “mom, what is a ‘con-dom’?  … me very unthankful for her new reading skills.. “um.. well, uh.. it’s a PERFUM, see”  and I pointed to the machine next to that one and it had perfume in it.. THANKFUL that cooper was in there too and said, yep abby – that is a perfume machine.. … I know, I KNOW.. I will have to undo this, but a restroom in rural Tennessee was not the place….

2.  another restroom, emily in a stall for a bit to long.. I notice her flip flops fell to the floor.. I say, “emily are you okay?”  em replies, “yep, just getting my poop out”  .. and yes, there are 3 people waiting at this point..

3.  yet another.. emily again repeating story number 2 above.. me, “emily are you okay?”… emily, “yeup.. finishing up”.. okay..  then a minute later.. me.. “okay, em?”  Em, “yeup, just getting dressed”…  Noooooooooo..

emily turned FOUR!!!!

this Christmas Season has been so nice – usually I am so busy doing sessions, delivering orders, designing cards – that by the time I can take a breath, it is Christmas day.. but YAY.. not this year!!!  I am so thankful that I can enjoy the month.

Not only is there Christmas, but we also have TWO other birthdays to celebrate in our house.  Emily turned FOUR on Dec. 11th.. and tom turns, well older, this week..

Emily was ready to give up sucking her thumb now that she was turning FOUR..  her teeth are getting all kinds of crazy from it.. so we’d talked that four was a good time to stop.. she was in full agreement

she woke up on her Birthday morning, got dressed in her choice of clothing, ran over to her growth chart and cried.. “but I am NOT FOUR.. I’m still THREE!!!”..

(please do excuse the crappy blackberry pictures.. but that’s all I have for some of these.. – i would LOVE Santa to bring me an iphone.. totally not in the cards this year.. upgrade not until next summer.. UGH)

back to the “not four” year old..  It took us like two days to get her to understand that she is indeed FOUR years old, but not four feet tall.. and they are exclusive of each other.. “but I was THREE when I was THREE.. and I was TWO when I was TWO”.. she has a good argument..  when people ask her how old she says, “i am four, but I am not FOUR tall”..

a “tradition” at our house is the “happy birthday” banner..  it goes up for each birthday and stays up the whole day.. just a silly fun thing.. well, the one we had was just paper and was getting very worn.. SO.. when I saw that one of my favorite places to get awesome items (remember the tooth fairy pillow?), Sugar & Blue, had some really cool Bunting, I sent Anslee a message and asked if possibly she could make a custom Birthday one.. YEUP.. she came through AND in time for Little Emily’s bday!  I’m soooo happy to have one that will last… it is sooo perfect!!!

emily sitting patiently waiting for tom to bring in her last gift.. Cooper – bored out of his mind!

she had a fantastic 4th Birthday!

and is still sucking her thumb

Christmas time is such a neat time to pay attention to the different types of light and light sources..

It is a PERFECT time to play with gorgeous Bokeh too.. (that pretty blurry background stuff)

one of the “homework” assignments I asked my workshop group to do was to capture an image of pretty Christmas light bokeh..

our tree is – well – a hodgepodge of glittery random stuff… for so long, I had a perfect white-light tree in my visions for our home.. NOPE.. this is our tree – random, bright, and totally decorated by the kids and ornaments from our trips, special ornaments they have made and pictures of them from each year.  The wall has crafts they’ve made from babies to now…

then by focusing a bit in front of the tree and recomposing (focusing on something closer than the tree, holding the shutter 1/2 way down and then moving the camera to fill the frame with the tree)..

cool, eh.. ?

i do have three small trees downstairs.. i may go take one of these with those..

I took these this morning – I will retake at night and they will be different with out the warm morning sunlight coming in..

Avery, his little sister, OH.. this girl.. I met her the day she was born.. a FULL head of hair.. she always gives me a difficult time when I visit.. this time was just the same – UNTIL picture time.. she was my best friend and would have taken pictures all day.. She won’t look at me, but take her picture – she LOVES her some Aunt Nikki.. put the camera away.. back to the same .. sigh… i still love her.

here is Mr. Aidan.. crazy handsome..

darling Miss Avery.. she looks sweet and friendly here, but that girl – gosh.. she gives me such a hard time!!!  I know.. deep down.. she loves me and KNOWS exactly what she is doing!  … OH.. I KNOW.. from now on I will start the visit with a photo session – BRILLIANT

and some fun sibling shots.. i love them!!!

hope you guys love them…

now for some pizza and wine..

on our great trip of the Southeast, we had a nice stop in Augusta, Georgia.. I was thrilled to be able to fit this family in to my schedule.. I’ve been photographing Emma for quite a while…  before Jack was around.. it has been amazing to see what a really neat little girl Emma has become.. she and I had a wonderful time – I think she would have taken pictures all day..  she has a great little sense of humor and loves to mess with me when I’m taking her picture.. she has come so far from the first time from our first session when she was super shy… little brother Jack, not so shy!!! he is all boy, but a cautious little dude..  he was in a great mood for our session and wore-me-out!

we had a perfectly overcast morning – really a photographer’s happy day – especially with kids with the fair complexions that these two have.. i had a wonderful time chasing – and i do mean CHASING them around.. very thankful I had coffee waiting!

we started out with the more traditional “Christmassy” clothes .. hoping to be able to keep both Emma and Jack in good spirits to change in to some more casual outfits – Jack recently turned 2 and Emma’s birthday is very soon – so we were doing a double session of sorts.. i am soooo pleased with the results…

love this.. i love how Emma looks at him and cracks up..

Pretty Emma alone.. there are so many great ones of her..

back to the two of them.. Now, to get these smiles on them – I was a tad loud and obnoxious – a huge sorry to the families who live around this area.. but I think it was worth it..

do you see how tight they are holding hands??  oh… i just love when they love each other.. warms my heart..

now.. this of Jack.. I just love it.. love him.. love him in all his two year oldness.. you just never know where he is about to bound off to..  he is cautious, but dude, he is wicked fast!!

i really like this family one – you can see how little the little guys are..

and wardrobe change.. emma’s little dress was orginally for her Alice in Wonderland Tea Party Birthday … but she has changed her mind a bit.. I asked her if I could borrow it because it is just adorable, she was worried I would stretch it or get it dirty.. smart girl..

i love this one..  doesn’t it look like a magazine ad or something.. just makes you wonder what is next.. well, okay, maybe that’s just me.. but I love it..

and then Mr. Jack was in a very adorable boy outfit.. button up and pants.. and he looks soooo much older to me..

with little boys, ya never know what you are going to get.. i love his little belly.

and then they ran.. and ran.. and ran..

hope you love the peek Emily and Keith.. Thanks again for letting me chase them around..

when planning our trip to Florida, we knew we had to leave time to visit this family.. Tom has known the dad, Ray, since – well, like forever.. and I met them about 10 years ago.. Back then we were all in our mid-twenties and just starting out on our lives as couples.. not a child between us.. NOW.. 10 years later, there are six kids between us.. SIX kids..

Little Maya was born earlier this year and this was my first chance to meet her.. she is a doll.. the sweetest little disposition – happy, friendly, and well, LOUD!!!  she is a chatterbox.. FULL of personality.. Tom, my husband, has had baby fever for about 3 years now and he is absolutely smitten with Maya..

i must admit, i am too.. how could you not be..

she has the chubbiest little cheeks, softest litte bald head.. and jumpiest little legs

and pretty bright eyes..

big sister Lilly is a bit quieter at first, but man.. she and i had fun during her little photo session..  we were just laughing.. chatting.. laughing.. attempting to be serious..  she was a natural in front of the camera and once she relaxed, she needed no direction.. i would love to sit and chat with her and hear her thoughts on things.. anything..

and brother Anthony is just all boy.. the only time i could get him to come alive was when talking sports.. so we talked a bit of football…  i love this serious look a lot.. but his laughing face is sooo cute too

we did the kids individually first, then got them together in hopes that we could get ONE of the three of them.. Maya LOVES her brother and sister..  and they are so good with her..

i actually got a few of the three of them.. i just love this one a super lot..

probably will end up on my blog.. or website.. or both..
